Injection of botulinum toxin

The effects of using botulinum toxin

Botulinum toxin (commonly referred to as botox) is a medicinal product commonly used in the liquidation of wrinkles, treatment of excessive sweating, bruxism or migraine. The action of the toxin causes the inhibition of acetylcholine production responsible for the transmission of signals between neurons. As a consequence, there is a completely safe and reversible process of muscle weakness in the movement plate – the nerve endings do not send the neurotransmitter, while the muscles stop shrinking excessively. Therapy allows you to achieve optimal results when treating different types of wrinkles, such as crow’s feet, lion’s wrinkle, forehead wrinkles, smoker’s lines, rabbit wrinkles and wrinkles under the eyes. Botox allows you to reduce excessive muscle tension, hence it is used to treat chronic migraine, in the jaws associated with excessive work of masseter muscles and allows to limit the work of sweat glands in people with hyperhidrosis in the armpits, hands and feet.

What does the botulinum toxin injection look like?

Injection of botulinum toxin is always preceded by consultation with aesthetic medicine doctor and thorough medical history, aimed at providing patients with maximum safety and exclusion of possible contraindications to the procedure. The doctor adjusts the appropriate dose of botulinum toxin to the needs of a particular patient, depending on individual circumstances. Then he introduces it with a microneedle to the muscles located just under the skin. The treatment is virtually painless, and most patients compare the injection to a quick mosquito bite. At the patient’s request, we use an anesthetic cream with lidocaine applied to the skin several minutes before the performing the treatment.

The duration of the botulinum toxin injection procedure

The treatment lasts from 15 to 30 minutes.

The convalescence period after the injection

The treatment is safe and minimally invasive, therefore it does not require a special recovery period. Normally the patient can immediately return to normal activity. It is necessary for 24 hours after the procedure not to take very high physical activity and you should not drink alcohol, and in 2 weeks it is better not to heat the area and do not use the sauna or solarium. Sometimes a small local swelling may occur, which lasts no longer than 2 hours. Very rarely after the treatment there is a bruise that heals in a few days.

The duration of the effects

New neuromuscular ends are formed within 4-12 months, therefore patients usually enjoy the obtained effect for about 4-6 months in the case of wrinkles, and the effect lasts even up to 9-12 months in the treatment of hyperhidrosis.
